Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) is a versatile chemical compound commonly used as an antifreeze and in the production of polyester fibers and resins.

What is Monoethylene Glycol?
Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) is a colorless, odorless, and sweet-tasting organic compound with the chemical formula C2H6O2. It is a crucial industrial chemical used primarily as an antifreeze in various applications, including automotive cooling systems and as a deicing agent for aircraft. MEG is also a fundamental building block in the production of polyester fibers and resins.

Mono Ethylene Glycol Advantages:

Monoethylene Glycol or MEG offers several advantages, including:

  1. Excellent Antifreeze: MEG as antifreeze lowers the freezing point of water, making it a vital component in antifreeze formulations to protect engines and pipelines from freezing.
  2. Hygroscopic Properties: MEG has a high affinity for water, making it effective in moisture removal from natural gas and air systems.
  3. Polyester Production: It serves as a key raw material in the manufacture of polyester fibers, films, and resins.
  4. Chemical Intermediary: MEG is a versatile chemical intermediary used in various chemical processes.
  5. Non-toxic and Biodegradable: MEG is non-toxic to humans and environmentally friendly, as it is readily biodegradable.

Mono Ethylene Glycol

Mono Ethylene Glycol Uses:

Mono-ethylene glycol is more commonly used as a polymer precursor. It is in high demand in the plastic industry as it is used as a key ingredient in the production of polyester fibres, films, and resins. This chemical is even used in the textile industry. A significant amount of the MEG or mono ethylene glycol is used as a chemical intermediate in the polyester production processes.

Another major use of mono ethylene glycol is in antifreeze applications where it is a component in the manufacture of antifreeze, coolants, aircraft anti-icers and deicers. MEG as antifreeze comes with the ability to depress the freezing temperature of the water. Pure mono ethylene glycol solvent freezes at -12.9 °. However, when it is mixed with water, it can immensely reduce to around -45 °C with 60% ethylene glycol and 40% water.
Mono ethylene glycol also plays a vital role in the manufacture of alkyd resins, used to form a film in paints, enamels, and varnishes. Mono ethylene glycol or MEG in the oil and gas industry is used to eliminate water vapour from the gas before it is processed further.
Chemical Iran is a top manufacturer, supplier, exporter and distributor of antifreeze ethylene glycol, providing a wide selection of chemicals and petrochemicals including mono ethylene glycol coolant with the assurance of their highest standards of quality and purity.
